Thomond House is a beautifully restored historic property dating back to 1778. Originally a soldier’s barracks, this four-storey home has been transformed into a spacious and elegant holiday retreat, blending period character with modern comfort. Set in a private, gated courtyard beside the River Fergus and the ruins of a medieval castle, it offers guests a peaceful and memorable escape in County Clare. The ground floor features warm and inviting living spaces. The kitchen and dining room stretch the length of the house, with a solid oak table seating 10, a wood-burning stove, and a fully equipped kitchen showcasing original features alongside modern appliances. A separate utility room with washer and dryer and a guest toilet add convenience. The cosy sitting room offers a second wood-burning stove, comfortable seating, and a TV – an ideal place to relax after a day exploring. Thomond House has eight en suite bedrooms. Six king rooms are arranged across the second and third floors, while the top floor has two smaller doubles sharing a bathroom – perfect for children. Two king rooms include their own sitting area and TV, and each floor features a freestanding bath for added luxury. While there are eight bedrooms, the house is most comfortable for up to 10 guests. Guests can enjoy the shared landscaped walled garden to the rear, a tranquil spot filled with flowers and seating. The courtyard provides ample parking, and the houses are beautifully lit at night. A private chef can be arranged on request (extra charges apply), and for larger gatherings, the Straw House onsite can be reserved for private dining or events.
