The Old Fisherman’s Cottage is a very special find and those who stay here never want to leave…you’ll see why! We are located right next to the amazing village beach and the views from the cottage are just breathtaking! You can see for miles over the Atlantic Ocean to the outlying islands and we often watch the dolphins performing just for us! The cottage was built circa 1871 using stones from the beach below and had a thatched roof back in the day. It was converted into a two storey property in the 1940’s when my grandmother began to offer the cottage as a guest house….she was very loved and we are proud to follow in her footsteps. We renovated the cottage in 2015 and have been welcoming guests ever since, many who have become friends and return year after year, that’s the biggest compliment of all. We love our home and sharing it with guests who love it as much as we do ourselves is an absolute privilege! The cottage has 3 bedrooms, one King, one double (downstairs) and the other with adult size bunk beds. A beautiful bathroom overlooking the sea. A big kitchen and dining area with everything you should need for your stay. And a cosy living room with stove.

Achill Island is located on the very far West of Ireland in County Mayo and is attached to the mainland by a bridge. The Old Fisherman’s Cottage can be found here in the sleepy village of Dugort (we believe the best part of the island…but we’re a little biased)! The first thing you’ll notice is the huge Slievemore Mountain protecting the village from the worst of the weather and, of course, the beach! We are proud to be just a moment away from one of Achill’s best beaches! And another favourite thing about our location are the neighbours….mainly sheep! Achill has way more sheep than people and I think most of them like to live here in Dugort. Don’t be surprised to go to sleep at night with a whole flock of sheep in the garden and wake up to five or six cows munching the lawn! We can’t grow any beautiful plants or flowers because of this but we wouldn’t change it for the world! And sitting in the garden with a nice cup of tea watching the dolphins play is just one of the best feelings ever. There’s something very magical in the air in Dugort village…I think you might feel it too.
