Restoration and refurbishment began on The Old Medical Hall in 2014. Formerly known as The Old Medical Hall and as a chemist shop started by Mr Swanton, the building became an intrinsic part of the community of Castletownbere and locals still have anecdotes to tell of Paddy and his customer charms! The building ceased functioning as a chemist in 2003 and remained empty until works began in 2014. Now re-opened in July 2016 and renamed “The Old Medical Hall”, the building comprises of 5 well-appointed bedrooms decorated in period style all with large luxury en-suite bathrooms on the upper two floors. Situated in the heart of Castletownbere, The Old Medical Hall is the ideal base for exploring the spectacular Beara Peninsula, the picturesque villages of Eyeries, Allihies or take a cable car to Dursey Island.
The owners, Lorna & David have been hosting guests for 15 years and look forward to meeting you.
Castletownbere is the second largest fishing port in Ireland and is a small but vibrant town nestled at the heart of the spectacular Beara Peninsula. The town sits between the Caha and Miskish mountains and overlooks the beautiful Berehaven Harbor and Bere Island. It is situated on the Wild Atlantic Way, a 2,500 km tourism trail along the west coast of Ireland. During high season ( March to October) there are daily excursions for whale watching trips and a frequent ferry service to Bere Island. Castletownbere is home to the world famous McCarthy’s Bar along with many other pubs offering great “Craic” and music many nights of the week. There are a number of restaurants serving delicious local foods and the recently opened Beara Coast hotel is fast establishing a reputation for excellent food, especially locally caught fish.
