The Old School House Cottages was originally built in 1838 and is one of the oldest properties in Clifden. We have divided the house into two semi detached houses, we live on the left hand side and the guest house is on the right. We have a second guest house in the garden called The Potters Cottage, thus the garden is shared with us and guests staying in the Cottage. There is a wood burning stove in the living room and we supply a standard amount of wood to get you going, should you require more then this can be easily purchased from the near by supermarkets and petrol stations.
We are situated on the Wild Atlantic Way, close to Clifden town centre yet in the countryside with scenic views and scenic walks. It is 400m to Clifden and an 10-15 minute walk to the nearest pub. It's only a 5 minute walk to the Greenway, as well as 10 minute drive to Ballyconneely and Connemara's famous beaches. Great for scenic walks, beaches, golf, painting, fishing and running with direct access onto the cycle lanes.
I was born and bread in North London and moved to Brighton for university, my husband was born to Irish parents in Brighton with strong roots in Connemara. I studied Interior Architecture at University and worked in the Property Recruitment Industry for over 20 years in Central London, due to family commitments we relocated to Connemara in 2015.
We have travelled extensively around the world and have stayed in some amazing places. Thus leading us to set up our own self catering Guest House's. The sky in Connemara is amazing, the rainbows are exceptional, the changing weather is a pleasure and not a hindrance, just be prepared for rain whatever time of year you visit us, we don't believe in umbrellas here as these often don't stand a chance against the Western Winds. For clean air living Connemara is perfect.
We love cooking, walking, gardening, art, history, Husky's (we obviously have one !) and traditional Irish architecture and design. Our personal taste may be considered old fashioned, retro, vintage and to many homely and cosy.
The Old School House is our family home and we are small family run business that takes pride in offering our guests old school traditional Irish accommodation.
We had always dreamed of moving here and living a far simpler life, community is strong here in Clifden and the locals work hard to make everyone feel at home and welcomed.
A five minute walk to the Greenway, The Salt Lake and a couple of minutes walk to the Connemara All Blacks Rugby Club.
Here, and in nearby Maam Valley are the setting for such films as The Guard, The Field and John Ford's classic, The Quiet Man.
