The property was created using as its base the Island Schoolhouse where Tim the owner and manager himself went to school. The kitchen, bedroom and washroom area are all in the purpose built extension which was built using modern and up to date building techniques. There is for example an eco friendly heat pump heating the whole building underfloor. The rooms are private and are double, quadruple or full size family rooms. The washrooms are separated male and female with plenty of shower cubicles etc. The kitchen and dining area are common areas, breakfast is a self service system and there is the possibility of preparing simple evening meals with microwave ovens, electric grills and toasting machines available. Am outside BBQ area is also available.

Tim grew up on the island and runs the passenger ferry all year around. He has an enormous amount of knowledge of the island and is available for any information you may need. There is a bar on the island that serves food at lunchtime and in the evening, it is 700 meters from the School House. The school house closed down a good few years ago and was falling into ruin, this project has now given it a new lease of life.

Whiddy Island is a ten minute boat ride from the pier of Bantry. Bantry is about an hour from Cork city by car or 90 minutes by bus from Cork bus station. The boat journey is included in your room rate. The island is only 5 KM long and 3 wide so it is easy to walk everywhere. The Whiddy Island School House is located about 800 meters from the ferry. There is lots of interesting things to visit on the island with historical sites and local pebble beaches some with picnic areas.
