Built by our ancestor, M. R. Raman, the house has been in continuous occupation since 1939. M. R. Raman generated his vast fortune from his business empire in Ceylon. His international exposure translated to some unique features to this otherwise traditional 'Tharavadu', ancestral home, such as Japanese wall tiles and wrought iron grills.
This imposing three story structure with its wooden pillars and wooden ceiling has been immortalised by the, 60+, films, serial and commercials filmed here.
The rooms on offer are part of the main building. They have been renovated to accommodate few modern amenities such as attached bathrooms and air-conditioning. When built, there were no attached bathrooms in the main building. Baths and restrooms were housed in a separate structure, some of which are still in use.
Guests have access to the upper floor of the house around the rooms. A sit out on the upper floor flanked by wooden pillars overlooking a well manicured lawn.
Sree Vishnumaya Swami and Sree Karinkutty Swami have temples dedicated to them next the house. These deities, amongst few others, were brought by our ancestors when they moved to Chavakkad over 300 years ago.
There is pond in the compound. Reminiscent of the canal, using which building materials were brought, can also been seen within the property.
