The house is located in the countryside, surrounded by untouched nature with great open areas and beautiful views in all directions. The place is in a very calm, quiet and private area. There is a lot of history in this place and there is a church here that is mentioned in the old Icelandic saga Snorraedda. A church has been here since around 1200 AD at least, but the current church was built in 1873 and is the oldest building in the local municipality, Borgarbyggð (Mýra and Borgarfjarðar county). The same family has lived on the land since 1900 and is now the fifth generation running the farm. Here you can come and enjoy both nature and history. The environment is very quiet, and you can go for a walk see the church or go out into the untouched nature. In the winter you can enjoy the northern lights with minimum light pollution.
We are only about an hour's drive from Snæfellsjökull. About an hour's drive from Reykholt, Barnafoss and Húsafell. About an hour's drive from Þingvellir and an hour's drive from Reykjavík. Very well located in all directions.
We are finishing renovations the building, so everything is like new in the house with new beds. The first guests will arrive in February 2023.
Svanhildur and her husband Sigurður are farmers in Álftártunga. They bought the land and the farm in 2019 and took over from her father. Their farm has sheep, horses, chickens, dogs and one cat. Her family has lived on the land since 1900 and she is the 5th member who is a farmer here.
It is very short in untouched nature behind the house, not a long walk to lava and forested areas by nature, extremely beautiful area. flowing river on both sides of the area. Very quiet and few people in the area. So that the environment invites reflection and mindfulness.
