Söðulsholt is a working horse training and conditioning farm on the Snæfellsnes peninsula that includes over 70 horses, horse stables, and a first class indoor riding facility on more than 1300 hectares (3,200 acres). We are located 2 hours from Keflavik International Airport and approximately 40 minutes northwest of the town of Borgarnes.
This large property (over 1300 hectares or 3,200 acres) has it all! The view of the mountains, ocean, and free grazing horses are spectacular. We are conveniently located with easy access to the many sights that Snæfellsnes peninsula has to offer and more. The cottages are brand new and were built in in 2015 and 2016.
Horse breeder and casual farmer that has lived and traveled the world but calls Snæfellsnes home.
Söðulsholt serves as a central location to explore the beautiful surroundings of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, including the Eldborg Volcanic Crater, a nearby geothermal pool, Gullborgarhraun Lava field (formed by the Gullborg volcano 7000 to 9000 years ago and referenced in the Icelandic Sagas), the village of Stykkisholmur, Arnarstapi/Hellnar and the Snæfellsjokull glacier.
Foal season typically runs from May through September when we welcome additional foals into the Söðulsholt family. June features our "sleppitur" event when the horses are let out for the summer.
Our Snæfellsnes location is ideal for observing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) as they can be seen from October through March.
Söðulsholt is located approximately 13 km (8 miles) from the Eldborg Volcanic Crater, 50 km (31 miles) from the town of Borgarnes, 45 km (28 miles) from the historic town of Stykkisholmur, 69 km (43 miles) from Arnarstappi/Hellnar and the Snaefellsjokull glacier.
