Not to be missed, just 22 km away, is the charming city of Arezzo, rich in history (Arezzo was one of the first Etruscan cities), architecture (there are many basilicas and churches to visit) and valuable works of art by Renaissance artists (including Cimabue and Piero della Francesca). The city is also known for traditional festivals and historical performances, especially the Giostra del Saracino in June and September: the knights of the districts challenge each other by hitting a wooden statue with a spear. Cortona, the main cultural and tourist center of Val di Chiana, is 30 km away and Lake Trasimeno only 40 km. Do not miss a visit by ferry to the islands of Polvese and Maggiore. The area around the lake is also full of trekking or cycling trails.
