The district of the Filippini begins beyond the Customs, extended between the Adige and the San Fermo road; the name of the district derives from the settlement in the monastery annexed to the homonymous church of the Fathers of the Congregation of the Oratory of San Filippo Neri, which took place in 1715.
The slaughterhouse was used, in 1575, as a warehouse in which to isolate the products that reached the city by river, for sanitary purposes, became, with time, more and more a deposit available to merchants; this led to the construction of a new river customs, which always rose to the Filipinos, a few tens of meters away. In 1853, there was a further variation in the intended use of the architectural complex: the City of Verona, in fact, set its sights on this area when choosing a suitable site for the construction of the new public slaughterhouse.
