We are close to the site of the “vestizione de su Componidori” (dressing of the Componidori). During the Sartiglia and other events, you can see the horsemen riding past the building, thanks to the presence of stables in the surrounding area. The beaches of Torre Grande and Abarossa are 10 minutes away, followed by Is Arutas, Tharros, San Giovanni, Maimoni... ... Located in the heart of central-western Sardinia, Oristano is a city rich in history, culture and traditions. The ancient capital of the Giudicato d'Arborea, it still retains its medieval charm in its historic centre, with its quiet alleys, elegant squares and monuments that tell the story of centuries of events. The symbol of the city is the Tower of Mariano II, built in the 13th century as part of the defensive walls and now a panoramic and historical point of great interest. Not far away is Piazza Eleonora d'Arborea, the beating heart of the city and a tribute to the famous judge who promulgated the Carta de Logu, one of the oldest legislative codes in Europe. Oristano is home to numerous places of worship of considerable artistic value. The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, with its Baroque façade and interior rich in sacred works, is the main religious building. The Church of San Francesco, in neoclassical style, preserves the precious 14th-century wooden crucifix known as Cristo di Nicodemo. Also worth visiting are the Gothic Church of Santa Chiara, the Church of San Domenico and the Church of Sant'Efisio, all testimonies to the profound local spirituality. Among the most significant cultural sites is the Museo Antiquarium Arborense, which houses Nuragic, Phoenician and Roman artefacts, as well as works of art from the city's churches. Also worth visiting is the Torre Grande, a 16th-century Spanish coastal tower overlooking the sea and now used as an exhibition venue. Oristano is also famous for its traditions: among these, the Sartiglia, an ancient equestrian joust that takes place during Carnival, is one of the most spectacular and heartfelt events in Sardinia.
