Orvieto is a small village in Umbria clinging to a tuff cliff. The Cathedral (1290) with its mosaic façade houses a marble sculpture of the Pietà. The Pozzo di San Patrizio (16th century) has a double spiral staircase. A network of underground caves bears witness to the Etruscan roots of the town. Artifacts from that period, including ceramics and bronze objects, are exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum. During the Christmas season you can also admire the Crib in the Well of the Quarry which is undoubtedly one of the most unique settings, in the medieval quarter of Orvieto. The first caves host dioramas and / or introductory installations to the real crib, which is set up in the last large cave of Etruscan origin, 14 meters high.
