Our B&B is located in a splendid setting within the well-known Palazzo Taranto, built in the 18th century in a late Baroque form, at the behest of the noble family of the philanthropist Emanuele Taranto. Emanuele Taranto Rosso was born in 1801 in Caltagirone, as he was a scholar, an interpreter and a religious and he donated all his manuscripts to the Library, where it is possible to observe his portrait.
The structure is located at the foot of the Scala Maria SS. del Monte, behind the Church of S. Giuseppe and overlooks the Spadaro Garden. Inside it presents two "Luxury Rooms": "Imperia" and "Golden Room", for all days of travel, history and local culture.
We wanted to create this B&B to enhance and make available a piece of the historical heritage of Caltagirone, long obscured; as early as the nineteenth century it was the fulcrum of intellectual and political activities of famous people: including Luigi Sturzo, his nephew.
We are two sisters who have decided to get involved through their qualities and offer culture in an active and creative way. Like the Sun and the Moon, different but both full of energy and light, so we decided to activate two independent rooms inside the building, with our respective colors: blue and gold, and from which the name of Golden and Imperia Room. The older sister is a painter, she has been painting and drawing since she was a child, and the second has a passion for theater. We wanted to put together the beauty of these arts, thus showing Roberta's paintings for each room, combined with the use of texts, legends and stories that characterize our personal cultural background.
The area is made even more interesting as it is just past the first two steps of the famous Scala Matrice to find itself in a magical corner .. the one enriched by the green of the Giardino Spadaro and its infinite "carruggi", that is narrow lanes characteristic of the 'Arab era, which if traveled can lead to the top of the Scala Matrice and in the parallel districts ... where higher and higher you will discover the building of St. Augustine, just reopened to the public and hosting the exhibition of the whistle; or even channel others that lead to the Church of the Patron Saint of Caltagirone: The Church of S. Giacomo. If you would like to discover something extraordinary, for those who are art lovers you can discover their heritage in famous churches (we will be available for clarifications and explanations). As for entertainment, pubs, bars and bars are close at hand. For those in search of tradition I highly recommend religious holiday dates (such as the "Giunta" at Easter), evenings at the villa, traditional processions accompanied by the musical band and the Scala Matrice, decorated in May and illuminated during the summer.
