The town of Quartu Sant'Elena rises on the southern part of the Campidano plain. It is the third municipality in the region by population, after Cagliari and Sassari. To visit the best Quartu and surroundings we suggest the use of the car. The main beach is undoubtedly that of Poetto, which is both the largest city beach and the most popular, easily accessible by public transport. The other noteworthy beaches are those of Sant'Andrea, Flumini, Capitana, Is Mortorius, Terra Mala, Cala Regina, Murtaucci or Is Canaleddus, Mari Pintau or Portu sa Traia, Kal'e Moru and Geremeas. The beaches of Murtaucci and Poetto have also been awarded the Blue Flag. Some of these beaches are characterized by a very fine white sand, others, such as Mari Pintau, the presence of pebbles and rocks.
