Scrofiano will be founded around X Century, and its name has longobard origin but many experts say that its origin is Roman (Sacro fanum = Sacred Wood). Only from the twelfth century some documents spoke about Scrofiano in relation to the presence of the family Cacciaconti, the nobles who were owners of all the castles in the area. Like other towns in the area, the municipality of Scrofiano was part of the Republic of Siena. The area is full of hiking trails where you can take long walks through the woods, vineyards, olive groves and streams that characterize the area. With about 20 minutes walking you can reach the "Church of the Soccorso" which is a Renaissance example of a peasant church that is located in a wood surrounded by two streams, in a suggestive unrepeatable setting.
