Villa Solaria is 19th century farm house built entirely of stone. At an altitude of 400 metres
above sea level, the Villa lies in the quietness of the Umbrian hills, surrounded by unspoilt
countryside, olive trees and vines. On arriving at the Villa, one is struck by three things; firstly, the total peace and quiet; then the sun (sole) and fresh air (aria) which gave the Villa its name: Solaria. In 2003 the Villa was carefully restored using period building materials salvaged by the owners,
thus ensuring the character of the property was retained. Particularly noteworthy are the still largely
intact original bearing walls which, on the outside, were restored using original materials in order
to ensure historical authenticity. The same is true of the inside, where the minimal amount of
restoration needed illustrates just how seriously stone selection was taken at the time of the
villa’s construction.
Villa Solaria is in Umbria, just 5km from the medieval town of Orvieto. The Villa is in the commune of Castel Viscardo, a village which is 500m above sea level, in the Umbrian hills. Umbria, whilst offering tranquillity and serenity, is also a region full of history and is famous for its splendid and well preserved medieval towns.
