The name Hokkaido Seasons represent our love for the four distinct seasons of Hokkaido. Spring starts from later half of April, with Sakura Blossom and local vegetable and fruit produce starts coming out in good variety. Summer starts from June til August. Enjoy very pleasant dry weather with temperature ranging mostly between 15-25C. A large variety of beautiful flowers blossom at different but well-coordinated time throughout the summer season. Autumn is highlighted by the fascinating red leaves scenery over vast landscape, starting from the mountain area in September gradually spreading to all major cities until late October. Perhaps the most popular season in Hokkaido is the winter season. Fluffy dry snow starts falling in the high altitude region from November. Southerly wind blowing through Sea of Okhotsk carries lots of moisture and delivers arguably the best snow in the world when arriving at Hokkaido. There are over 30 ski resorts in Hokkaido, start operating mostly from December. Some last until the first week of May.

Otaru began as a fishing village and later turned into a major port for agricultural products and coal from Hokkaido. The glass floats crucial for fishing activities has attracted glass making masters from all over Japan to settle in Otaru and is the reason for the many glass factories and shops in Otaru. One of our favourite glass shops with unique design and very fine products is Yukie glass. Apart from its unique design, Yukie glass applies crystal instead of silicone for most of its products. Otaru's most popular cuisine has to be sushi. Our recommendation is Isezushi (on the high end in price and only 3 min walk from our property). During busy season, you may need to reserve a seat 2 weeks or more in advance. Try to book the counter area as you get guaranteed quality of food by the master chef. The most popular is Masa Sushi along the Sushi Dori which always delivery high and stable quality of sushi. The old heritage Temiya line passes right through the back of our house. Enjoy the romantic town in summer with convenient bike rental nearby the Otaru station.
