This is the original camp in Maji Moto on nearly 200 private acres of natural plains and hills to explore. You are welcome as friends, to connect with Maasai people living an authentic life, including an onsite village. It's not a commercial "staged" experience, but a real immersion in culture and community. It was created in 2003 to share culture, provide employment for local people, and support community projects in education, health and environment.
Sleeping is in the camp cottages, or a village home, or trek out for several nights in the bush for tent camping. Or, the adventure of the unique experience of "Olpul" which is a trek to a remote bush camp still used by Maasai warriors and elders today for sharing tradition and ceremony, sleeping under the stars on soft leafy beds with a roaring camp fire under the protection of warriors.
Spend the days relaxing and linger among nature, engaging in daily living and warrior training, or trek out by foot, bicycle or motorbike to the hills, or game drive in the world famous Maasai Mara National Reserve....the choice is yours.
Salaton Ole Ntutu is a local leader who owns and manages the camp with his all-Maasai staff. Each day they are here sharing time with guests to learn about the culture and natural environment, including holy and medicinal trees and plants, warrior training with spears and arrows, singing and storytelling, and simply welcoming you into the culture they love so much. Activities throughout your stay are included.
Our cooks are locally to offer traditional dishes and happy to share the kitchen with you to for a cooking lesson.
The surrounding Loita Hills and Plains are home to resident herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and more.
The onsite village offers an authentic view of local Maasai life as well as a low key connection with women bead workers who can demonstrate their art, engage you in giving it a try, and of course offer beads for sale if you wish.
Local markets in Maji Moto and surrounding villages are great ways to see Maasai life in action with sales of livestock, vegetables, home goods, etc.
Maasai Mara National Reserve is less than an hour's drive away, with day trips or overnight excursions an easy add on to your stay.
