My husband and I have enjoyed hosting guests in our historic house in the center of Utrecht for many years. We love showing our guests around the city and learning from them. We are retired now and volunteer at a primary school, serve on boards, take care of our grandchildren, and travel. Before we retired, we both worked at a Dutch university: I was a professor of intercultural communication, and my husband was a communications teacher.

The rooms are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a patrician house from 1880, situated by the canal that surrounds medieval Utrecht. The rooms offer either a view of the canal and the houses designed by the famous architect Zocher, or of the large courtyard featuring monumental trees. The house is just a 7-minute walk from the Oude Gracht and a 10-minute walk from Domplein and Neude. Within the same walking distance, you’ll find shopping areas, restaurants, supermarkets, and the buildings of the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Governance, as well as the Faculty of Humanities of Utrecht University at Janskerkhof. From there, 6 to 9 buses depart per hour to the Science Park, the University Medical Center, and the Maxima Center of Utrecht University. Important cultural locations such as Tivoli/Vredenburg, Stadsschouwburg, and the Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement are all within a 14-minute walk. Utrecht Central Station is a 17-minute walk away, providing frequent direct connections to Amsterdam and other cities in the Netherlands. The Griftpark, with its many attractions, is just a 6-minute walk away; a popular jogging path runs past the house, and nearby, you can rent canoes, SUP boards, and more. Although the house is centrally located, the neighborhood is quiet and green, thanks to the many trees along the canal and the spacious courtyard. Breakfast is not served, but there is a café just 50 meters away where you can enjoy breakfast. You can also prepare your own meals in a well-equipped kitchen that is exclusively for guests. Additionally, coffee and tea facilities are available in or near the rooms.

Our house is situated on a canal surrounded by old trees. In good weather, canoes, SUPs, pedal boats, and tour boats pass by. The area is green and quiet, and it is close to restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, shops, theaters, museums, cinemas, the flower market, and the rag market (only on Saturdays), as well as the regular market.
