About Us – Pigs and Pillows at Klein Knorrestein Joyce and her son Boet started their eco Bed & Wellness Klein Knorrestein in 2020, after a physically and emotionally difficult time. Joyce longed to create something meaningful — a healing place for guests, rescued animals, and the planet. The name Klein Knorrestein (roughly “Little Oinkstone”) is a playful tribute to the pigs they saved, and to the idea that even small places can have a big soul. The guest experience is called Pigs and Pillows — a name that combines their love of animals with the comfort and softness they want guests to feel. Before settling here, Joyce worked as a journalist and motor travel reporter, riding rally raids like the Paris–Dakar and guiding adventure trips. Later, she joined NGOs like Natuurmonumenten, Stichting AAP, and KNGF Guide Dogs, always with a mission to help people, animals, and nature. She and Boet now live in their self-built, sustainable home in the eco-village of Almere Oosterwold, just outside Amsterdam. Their 3,500 m² plot holds two tiny wellness houses for guests, a greenhouse, a large organic garden, and a meadow for their rescued pigs, goats, chickens, dogs and cat. 🐷 Mighty Pig – a cozy Wikkelhouse with wood stove, Dutch oven, hot tub, sauna and forest views. 🐐 Holy Goat – a fairytale Iglucraft cottage with romantic bedstead, private wellness, and total garden privacy. Oosterwold is a lush, green and sustainable, organic, urban farm district in development, with a climate-neutral way of life at the border of city Almere. Joyce and her son Boet were one of the very first inhabitants who dared to take the adventurous step. We didn't now if we would be able to build our own roads, our own vegetables, our own rainwater filtration system, and prepare our house to be off grid in the near future. 'Klein Knorrestein' is located on the edge of this very special residential area, Oosterwold, in a beautiful spot: next to the forest, where you can walk through the Kathedralenbos to the canal, where you can swim in summer and winter (for diehards). Go to Stadslandgoed De Kemphaan, with the AAP Foundation, the climbing forest and much more. For example, you can go on a beaver safari with the forest ranger! Or get all your delicious ingredients for your slow cooking at the organic market at De Kemphaan on Saturday. Oosterwold is a wonderful adventure. You will be amazed, it is a mix of separate new construction, villas, earth houses, straw construction, container houses, but also a triangular house or a round sphere to live in: in Oosterwold, it is possible.
