Aimeo Cottage on the hill of Okiato peninsula is surrounded by gardens and bush. From June 2023 on, we exclusively rent only our spacious Studio apartment on the ground floor with a patio in subtropical garden. It offers a Queen-size bed and a Sofa, which can be converted into a SGL bed. A very well equipped Kitchenette, Dining table, TV (Sky), DVD and books will make you stay comfortable. In the subtropical garden you can find figs, grapes and bananas and if we are lucky, vegetables from our vegie patch. There are several sitting areas around the garden. In two minutes through the bush you reach an almost private swimming beach and in nine min. drive Russell Township, with historic sites, shops and restaurants for all your needs. All excursions on the water start from here. Free WIFI and parking.
My late husband and I have been sailing half around the world to find this loveley quiet spot in the heart of the Bay of Isalnds. Having spend 14 years in Tahiti I am enjoying now the more moderate temperatures of the "winterless" North. It seems that "kiwis" grow up with a golf club in their hands, so I am trying this challenging sport too, love sailing, swimming and walking. Enjoy company of friends and good food and wine. On the island of Moorea I managed a resort hotel and enjoyed meeting guests from all over the word, so do I here in Russell. When can I welcome you here at the AIMEO? ( Polynesian word for "hidden or quiet place")
Okiato is a very quiet suburb from Russel . It was once the Capital of New Zealand. Nothing left, all burnt down, except the well from the government house. Auckland had the hope for a while to become the capital, but Wellington, on the South end of the North Island, was finally chosen. Just across the water in Opua, you can find all amenities of a modern marina, and a cafe and general store. You reach Opua by walking across with the car ferry. ( takes about 10 min). In Opua Yacht Club is a bar and restaurant, they welcome guests, and just at the Ferry landing in Opua is "The Old Store Takeways" .
