Greymouth is the largest town on the West Coast and grew from the gold mining days. Greymouth is also well known as the birthplace of the popular Monteith's Brewery, and visitors can enjoy brewery tours and sample the beer too. There is a huge selection of outdoor activities to experience, as well as some fantastic walks. Greymouth has a number of bars, cafes and restaurants that are also popular with visitors to the area, as is the nearby Shantytown, which is a living heritage attraction.
