Rose Cottage enjoys a peaceful rural outlook with an extensive deck looking across fields to the distant Kaweka range. Part of the historic Silverford property, it was originally built as a 2 room cottage for accommodation while the main homestead was constructed in 1903. It has since been extended and fully modernised with original two rooms now converted into the bedrooms and featuring elm floors made from trees planted on the property by the original owner.

David and Janiene are keen gardeners and Silverford features extensive historic gardens combined newer gardens created by the hosts.

Silverford is located in a rural area, surrounded by orchards and farms and just a few minutes from the Tutaekuri (too tie kuri) river with its swimming holes and gravel braids. Just 3km down the road is Puketapu, a tiny village featuring one of the region's best pubs (The Puketapu). Next to the pub is a bike trail that runs alongside the river and is part of the extensive (and mainly flat) Hawkes Bay cycle trail. On Puketapu Road is Shed 530 a newly built restaurant with fabulous pizzas. The nearest shopping area 10 minutes by car is Taradale with supermarkets and specialty shops and restaurants and takeaway food We are 15 minutes drive from Napier, the renowned Art Deco centre of New Zealand and 10 minutes from the oldest winery in New Zealand (Mission Estate) Mission Estate winery is known for its concerts in summer and fabulous restaurant. Just down the road is Church Road winery that also has a summer concert programme and restaurant. If you have children then Splash Planet in nearby Hastings is the place to be. Hastings has extensive shops cafes,restaurants, and parks it is just 10 minutes by car to Havelock North where there are more wineries and activities. Puketapu was the old coach stop so all roads lead to somewhere interesting.
