If you’d like to stay in, there is Wifi, a 50” TV, Netflix, chrome cast, aircon / heat pump and a super comfy sofa to sink into and relax. Fully appointed with linen, towels, beach towels, and guest amenities, so all you need to do is show up and chill out. All brand new, double glazed and fully insulated with a high-end finish – this is your home away from home. The name "Ruruwai" is a combination of Ruru (New Zealands native owl also known as the Morepork because of it's call) and "wai" meaning water. There are many native birds in Piha and you will see a lot of them, and hopefully hear the Ruru at night. You are a 2 min walk to the Piha Store, Café, Art Gallery, Bowling Club (for a beer and food) and a 5 min walk to the stunning Piha Beach and Lion Rock. World class surfing on your doorstep. Walking track to the Kitekite falls waterfall and Waitakere Ranges National Park at the end of the road and located right on the world famous Hillary Trail. You really can leave your car at the house and walk everywhere. Off street car parking provided. Garage below is reserved for the owners, but if you have bulkier items you would like to store, let us know. You may also hear us open this from time to time but we will keep to a minimum and inside reasonable hours as not to disturb you. Portacot and highchair also available on request.

Piha really is the jewel in the Crown of Auckland New Zealand and a truely magical location. You have the wild, black sand, west coast beach and you also have the beautiful native forest park. And of course, the iconic landmark of Lion Rock guarding the beach. Sit and enjoy the epic sunsets, the sounds of birds, the stars in the sky and the sound of the ocean. So much to explore and see. Piha is a sleepy beach town most of the time, but it does get busier in the summer months over the weekends and public holidays. We have a general store which also has fresh baking, a little library, Art Gallery and some clubs (Bowling Club, Surf Club) that also serve takeaways and eat in meals. It is very quiet in the winter during the week with most eateries (aside from the general store) closed Monday - Wednesday. Favourite activities for guests at our place are surfing, bush walks, coastal walks, relaxing, exploring and unwinding. It is so close to the biggest city in New Zealand but feels a million miles away.
