Nestled comfortably within a bush clad valley in Waikawa, this gorgeous cottage offers ultimate relaxation and tranquility for your next stopover or getaway to the Marlborough Sounds. We are 7 mins from Picton township but you will feel miles away. It is peaceful and quiet with bush on either side. A small creek runs alongside the property. The cottage has a comfortable queen size bed and a double pull out sofa bed. The bed and living room is in an open plan setting. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, bench top oven and two hot plates. This will allow you to cook basic meals. It also has a toaster and kettle. A BBQ is available on request. The is plenty of parking including for those with trailers and boats.
The cottage is situated next to our house. You have sole use of the cottage. We are a family of 4. We have 2 primary aged children at the local school. We love tramping in summer and skiing in winter. We are a family who loves exploring new places and meeting new people.
Picton and the Marlborough Sounds are some of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand’s South Island, mixing dramatic scenery with laid-back coastal charm. In Picton you can visit • Picton Foreshore & Waterfront – A lovely area with gardens, a playground, sculptures, and views of the harbor. Great for a relaxed stroll. • Edwin Fox Maritime Museum – Home to the Edwin Fox, one of the world’s oldest surviving merchant ships (built in 1853). • Picton Museum – A small but interesting collection covering local history, Māori artifacts, and early settlers. • Victoria Domain – Walking and mountain biking trails offering fantastic views over Queen Charlotte Sound. • Local Cafés & Shops – The town has a nice selection of seafood restaurants and boutique shops. The Marlborough Sounds are a network of drowned river valleys, full of bays, coves, and islands. They’re best experienced by boat, kayak, or on foot. • Scenic Cruises – Regular tours leave from Picton, exploring Queen Charlotte Sound with options to visit wildlife sanctuaries, mussel farms, or isolated bays. • Dolphin Watching & Swimming • Kayaking • Fishing & Sailing – Both popular; charters can be arranged from Picton. • Queen Charlotte Track – A famous 70 km trail running from Ship Cove (where Captain Cook landed) to Anakiwa. You can walk sections of it as a day hike or tackle the whole multi-day tramp. Water taxis drop off/pick up hikers along the way. • Lochmara Lodge Wildlife Recovery & Arts Centre – Accessible only by boat or kayak, this eco-sanctuary combines native bush, art, and conservation projects. • Kaipupu Wildlife Sanctuary – A predator-free peninsula near Picton, great for birdwatching and short walks. • Marlborough Wine Region – Just 20–30 minutes from Picton is Blenheim, the heart of New Zealand’s Sauvignon Blanc country. Wine tours, cellar doors, and vineyard restaurants are plentiful.
