We're just a 2 minute flat walk to the Russell waterfront, shops and restaurants. The Little Red Shed is attached the The White House 'Te Wharema' which was built in 1840. The shed was built in around 1860. We have totally renovated her inside yet the outside still keeps the charm of 'An Old Red Shed'. You get the best of both worlds. Please note we are a brand new property opened in October 2020 so as of yet we have no reviews.

We love to travel. Everything about travel is us so we hope in this we've created the perfect home away from home. We bought our home in Russel, Bay of Islands in 2001 when it was an absolute wreck. It is one of New Zealands oldest inhabited houses. After extensively renovating we opened as 'The White House' in 2005 and ran it as a B&B for 8 very successful years. During that time we converted our old shed into a travel agency which we also ran along with Motorbike & Jeep tours to Vietnam & Cambodia. We also have a pub & restaurant in the UK, and as time went by we had to go back to the UK to re open our pub as the lease ended which unfortunately meant us closing 'The White House' It is now out family home which we love. Missing hospitality we then converted the shed into a beautiful self contained accommodation in the heart of the wonderful town of Russell. We hope you love it as much as we do. It's an amazing space.

​As you stroll round Russell, Bay of Islands today, you’re walking back in time. The town’s original street plan and names from 1843 are still intact and feature some of New Zealand’s oldest and most significant historic buildings. Russell Kororareka was developed initially as a shore station for shipping. The European population grew, with a mixture of deserting seamen, runaway convicts, and grog sellers, as well as settlers and traders. The township thus gained a reputation as a lawless and rowdy port and the unflattering nickname “Hell Hole of the Pacific”. Many of the buildings seen in Russell Township now are dated back to these times, and during your stay, you will be able to discover more about the amazing stories that these buildings hold.
