Welcome to villa Russell just a short stroll to the beach, and Russell's restaurants and waterfront yet totally quiet and secluded, in a setting of native trees. Relax with magnificent views of the bay and wharf from the deck of our beautifully restored 1913 villa or from one of two spacious suites in the guest cottage. In the evening sip a glass of cool NZ wine from your verandah while watching the sunset over the bay, then wander down to the village for a delicious meal in one of our local restaurants. Breakfast in the morning is served al fresco on the verandah to the accompaniment of our native birds - Weka, Tui, Native pigeons, Kingfishers, Wax eyes, Fantails, and you may even hear the Kiwis in the bush at night
We came to live in Russell in 2003 having lived in various beautiful parts of New Zealand and this is surely our definition of Paradise. We owned Furneaux Lodge in the Marlborough Sounds for some years , another magnificent natural wonder. We have traveled extensively and know what is important in the places we have stayed and want our guests to feel totally at home, relaxed and comfortable in this special place. We have an interest in native birds, marine and landscapes and is happy to share this knowledge with our guests. We now have six grandchildren and when not at the villa travel to spend time with our precious little ones
We Live in a coastal marine environment where early settlers were whalers and have one of the best sailing areas in the world, with many islands, beaches and coves. Plus beautiful nature, bush and beach walks. Russell is the most historic town in New Zealand the Russell Museum is a highlight for those interested in our History The French influence can be found at the Pompallier Mission where early French missionaries produced prayer books and bibles in the Maori language. Guided tours take you through the whole process from tanning the leather to the printed end product.
