Monte da Masmorra de Baixo" is a typical Alentejo house, recently restored. The house is located on a 2-hectare estate, away from the main roads, in a very peaceful and quiet area. The most noise you'll hear comes from the bells of the sheep that roam the fields, very close to the house but separated by a fence. At the house we provide games and bicycles for riding around the property or on the surrounding paths. If it's hot, which is very common in the region, you can access the saltwater swimming pool. It is a 15-minute walk from services such as supermarkets, typical restaurants and a parapharmacy. The house has all the usual amenities, such as wifi, bed linen and towels. We clean and change towels every 7 days, or less on request. Meals can be taken in the local restaurants, or ordered to eat in the house. If you want to visit the surrounding area, you'll find the "Gruta do Escoural", with engravings from the Upper Palaeolithic period, which is well worth a visit. A 15-minute drive away you should visit the Castle of Montemor-o-novo and, of course, the city of Évora, a Unesco World Heritage Site with several monuments, such as the Chapel of Bones or the Temple of Diana. The Almendres Cromlech is another place that children love to visit. What we can guarantee is that in the Alentejo, and in Monte da Masmorra below, you'll find a space prepared with great care to welcome you, in a place where you can breathe fresh air and peace.

Welcome. Part of a large estate, Monte da Masmorra de Baixo has been in the family for over 150 years. Documents and letters found in the ruins of the hill show that taxes have been paid since 1878 and reveal Uncle Joaquim's desire to keep the house "in his people's hands". In 2019, Monte da Masmorra de Baixo will pass in its entirety to a single heir, who will thus fulfill a long-held wish to raise the house from the ruins and keep alive the family history that the letters portray so well: a hard-working family, united in sacrifice and love for their land. So it was with great pride that we worked to restore it from the ruins and prepare it to receive guests who can enjoy the magic of the Alentejo. We hope that all the conditions are in place for you to enjoy the tranquillity, peace and calm that this place offers us. We love to receive, but we don't like to disturb, so even if we're not there, please know that we're always available to help you with whatever you need.
