Sandra is the founder of Monte Rosa. In 1984 she moved to Portugal to start a health food restaurant and juice bar in Lagos. In 1993 she started her ‘Monte Rosa project’. Old farmhouses were rebuilt into comfortable and tastefully decorated guest accommodations. For many years Sandra was the hostess and cook. Now Sandra is retired and she delegated most of the responsibilities to her team. She still helps in the vegetable garden, is involved in renovation ideas and she continues to guard the Monte Rosa vision. Inspired by the Findhorn Community (Scotland) she intends to create an atmosphere of ‘work is love in action’. Sandra is also regularly in the Netherlands, where she follows a course in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). In July 2023 she will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Monte Rosa.

At Monte Rosa you can enjoy peace, space and being outdoors. It is an ideal place to unwind. Our intention is to offer a relaxed atmosphere in which you can recover from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We would like to be a place where guests can experience spontaneous meetings. On the terrace and in the outdoor kitchen you will often find cozy and casual gatherings. We like to see people as they are in this very moment. Above all want to make our guests feel comfortable and at home.

From the airport, follow the signs for the A22, Portimão/Lisboa motorway. You turn right twice (direction Portimão/Albufeira) before you arrive on the A22. Continue to follow the A22. Follow the direction of ‘Sines’ until the very end of the highway. At the roundabout, take the first exit towards Bensafrim. Right after the village, turn right towards Barão de São João. Follow the road for about 5km until you reach Barão de São João. At the church (on your left), turn left and then left again towards Lagos. After about 2km you’ll find the red sign of Monte Rosa on your right-hand side.
