Really get away from everything in this unique and tranquil getaway. This large and cosy traditional wooden family house, an inn in past times, can be reached from a driveway flanked by 2 long red barns. The house also has a fully equipped yoga studio. If you want to use it, let us know. It is located on the banks of the Kläralven river, where you can swim, canoe and fish. From the doorstep you can go hiking and mountain biking, with skiing resorts closeby in winter. A general store within walking distance will make sure you do not run out of anything, including petrol. We can also rent you a fishing boat and trailer, as well as canoes (2). You can launch them from our jetty or the slipway right next door to the house. Or you can take them to one of the many lakes in the area. You will have the whole house and garden to yourself. Someone may come to mow the lawn or clear the snow, but otherwise you have the whole house and back garden to yourself. In front of the house is the drive way with the barns. This area may be used by others.

We came to the Klarälven valley in 2023 visiting a friend and straight away were hooked. We trust you too will have a relaxing time for friends and family to really wind done and come together. The vast forests on the hills, the typical Scandinavian houses and the wide river told us this was where we wanted a place of our own. The Höljes house and its barns have been around in different forms for centuries, according to old maps. One of the neighbors, who must be 80 now, grew up there and keeps telling us more about its more recent history. We will strive to maintain its heritage for our guests, our yoga and other retreats, and our own family and the town. Höljes is full of helpful people that really try to keep the Finnskoga way of living, and with your support the gamla Gästis (old guesthouse) will be part of that for years to come. All seasons are special: spring with its streams full with water from the melting snow, its light green birches and beautiful flowers; summer with its wild flowers and berries, its long days and its mild temperatures; autumn with its frosty nights, colourful forests; and of course winter that starts in December and lasts until May, with its magical landscape of snow and ice and steaming waters.

Our house is in the small town of Holjes, on the banks of the river Kläralven. It is a nice and tranquil village with one general store and a few small restaurants. The town is just off the road to the Norwegian border (15 min. by car) where there is a shopping center. The Bränas ski resort is 30 minutes drive, and the larger resorts of Tryssol (NK) and Sälen are an hour away. The river Kläralven and its tributaries are perfect for fly fishing and canoeing, and there is also self-built rafting activities. Hiking and mountain biking, and cross-country skiing in winter, are other popular outdoor activities. You can walk to the general store for all daily supplies. The 211 bus leaves from the nearby general store, and drives along the river to the Norwegian border or the town of Stollet, from where you can catch buses to the main cities. Cycling, hiking, fishing or canoeing can be done straight from the house. We can rent you canoes or a fishing boat with 8 HP outboard engine, electric outboard and fishfinder.
