The house is located in the center of Bangkok old town on Charoenkrung Road, a major road in Bangkok and the first in Thailand to be casted in asphalt. Built during 1862–1864 in the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV). Construction of the road marked a major change in Bangkok's urban development, with the major mode of transport shifting from water to land. Charoen Krung Road was Bangkok's main street until the early 20th century, to serve the fast-growing community of foreign traders on the right bank of the Chao Phraya River. The consequence of a series of trade agreements Siam (the old Thailand) signed with foreign countries. The area became and has since remained a melting pot of cultures. It formerly served the community of European expatriates and it is still home to many historic buildings and neighborhoods.
