Deer Run on the Atlantic is green lodging in the authentic sense. Perhaps places consider themselves “green” but the main component… food… is almost always the “elephant in the room.” We are a 100% plant based, vegan establishment. This extends far beyond our food, but yes it does include our food. We source as much organic as possible (including organic sheets and towels), have comforters in the rooms stuffed with RePET fill, have water saver toilets, showers and faucets, heavily xeriscaped the property, compost, recycle, support fair trade including our coffee, chocolate, cocoa and vanilla (those industries are known for their human exploitation/slave labor practices), source vintage items and Made in the USA items, have LED lighting and solar lighting throughout the inn and grounds, use EnergyStar high efficiency appliances in front & back of the house, launder with Free & Clear detergent, buy in bulk, do not use travel-size toiletries, and so much more. We are platinum rated as a Green Property by TripAdvisor, and are rated by the State of Florida Green Lodging Program as a 4-palm property. The only 4 Palm rated Resort in all the Florida Keys one of 6 in the state!

Big Pine and the lower Keys are far more rural than most other Keys. The area has a charter boat company offering diving and snorkeling, an eco-tour company offering a wide variety of custom tours, kayak and paddle board tours, Florida Keys National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center, skydiving and Bahia Honda State Park, all within a short drive.
