Property is great. Location is great. Both upstairs and downstairs have balconies with street views. There is no water view. The neighbor across the street has many trees with many leaves that totally blocked any view of the water during our stay....

Company information

The Captain Morse House has been in our family since my father purchased it in 1955. I spent my summers at the house until I graduated from Tufts University. In 1973 I started Island Sports, a boat rigging and windsurfing shop. I expanded it to Newport, RI, in 1979 and ran it there until 2007, when we sold it. In 2008 I entered the vacation business and converted the Captain Morse House into a successful vacation rental. Since 2008 we have rented the home to over 200 families and groups. Our most recent project is Vacation Rental MV. This full-service vacation management business is designed to assist busy homeowners with listing and managing their on-island rental properties. 2021 will be our second season in business. In the winter, my wife and I live in Florida. Each spring, we drive up to the island, where we open up the house and prepare it for the season. We spend about a month doing this and then travel to Oregon, where we spend the summer windsurfing, kitesurfing, and enjoying all the Northwest offers. In the fall, we return to the island, help close the house, and prepare it for winter. There are always jobs to do on a house this large, allowing us more hands-on time. We travel back down to Florida in the late fall with the geese. I have built several homes and enjoy the challenge of maintaining this old house and of creating wonderful living spaces suitable for large or small numbers of guests. Due to my long time on the island. I can help you plan your vacation. I can provide you with the best possible service if we communicate via telephone or email. Our guests aren't clients so much; they are friends assisting us in maintaining the property and keeping it in our family for future generations. The vacation rental business has allowed our family to continue to own the house and to share it with other people who love the island and the unique architecture and heritage of this wonderful building.

Property information

The Captain Morse House is located in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard. The East Wing of the house is a totally private home and a part of the 26-room Captain Morse House. The Wings are 100% private, just like a townhouse is. There is no shared interior space; each 6-bedroom wing has its own kitchen, entrances, and rooms. See below for detailed information. Accommodations: 6 bedrooms, three bathrooms, sleeps 8-14 The front of the house has 10 rooms, six bedrooms, three baths, a gourmet kitchen, and a formal dining room. Out front on North Water Street, there are two large front porches with water views of Edgartown Harbor. North Wharf is located at the end of Morse Street. This is a working waterfront, but you can use North Wharf to view the action on the harbor and go fishing after hours. When you rent the East Wing of the house, you share the patio, backyard, and driveway. The yard is one of the largest in town and features separate seating for two parties of 8. There is off-street parking for one car.

Neighbourhood information

The Captain Morse House is located at the corner of Morse Street and North Water Street in the Village of Edgartown. The home is one of the grandest whaling captain's homes that line this amazing street. At the foot of the eponymous Morse Street is the Edgartown North Wharf, where the harbor launch, Harbor Master, and a small marina are located. You have full access to this dock, including fishing in the evening. To the left and up the street is the Edgartown Lighthouse and the Harbor View Hotel, which was recently renovated to the tune of 30+ mill. To the right and down North Water Street is the Chappy Ferry, Carnegie Museum, and then the heart of Edgartown village with galleries, shopping, and dining. There is really too much to describe about the town. You are within walking distance of it all. There are also three beaches that are within walking distance of the house: Lighthouse, Fuller, and Chappy. Edgartown is one of New England’s most elegant communities. Edgartown was Martha’s Vineyard’s first colonial settlement, and it has been the county seat since 1642 The stately white Greek Revival houses, including this house, were built by the whaling captains and have been carefully maintained. They make Edgartown a museum-piece community, a seaport village preserved from the early 19th century. Main Street is a picture book setting with its harbor and waterfront. The tall square-rigged ships that sailed all the world’s oceans are gone now but the heritage of those vessels and their captains has continued. Yachts and pleasure craft have replaced the whalers, and Edgartown is now one of the world’s best yachting centers. Being on an island there are excellent public beaches in the township of Edgartown. Norton’s Point, known as South Beach or Katama, is a barrier beach that provides surf, ocean breezes, and the opportunity to explore Katama Bay on the other side of the dunes. Wasque and Cape Poge on Chappaquiddick are both unspoiled areas to further explore.
