Named after the Moulin Rouge Beauty Shop, located in the home’s parlor from 1940 to 2015, the home was originally built in 1886 by the owner of the Mankato Free Press, Lewis and Lisbeth Hunt. Features of the home caught new owner, Crowell’s attention, such as the spiral staircase inside the turret, decorative inlaid wood floors, stamped metal ceiling tiles, stained-glass windows, leaded glass bay window and the beautiful curb appeal of this unique Victorian beauty. The artistry that can be found in the walls of the Moulin Rouge House is something that cannot be replicated. The couple restored the home for 3 years before opening the Bed & Breakfast, doing much of the work themselves with the support of local community members.
Chris and Kristin met in Belize, Central America in 2011, where Chris owned and operated a 15-Cabana Eco-Lodge along the banks of the Moho River. Kristin was the Sales and Marketing Manager for her parent's island resort in Belize from Mankato, MN. Once they were married and living in Mankato, MN, Chris discovered the Moulin Rouge House, which was in major disrepair at the time. He had a vision of restoring it to its original Victorian beauty and charm, while adding modern amenities such as new bathrooms and kitchen. Both Chris and Kristin have decades of experience in the hospitality industry and look forward to hosting you as their guest at Moulin Rouge House Bed and Breakfast.
Moulin Rouge House is located Downtown Mankato in the Historic Lincoln Park Neighborhood. It is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The home's convenient location allows guests to walk to restaurants, coffee shops, bars and the Convention Center. Private parking is provided free to guests.
