Martijn and Eveline Broeders, after 25 years of traveling the USA, retired in 2019 and sold their home to move with their pets to the USA. They loved the space, nature, and lifestyle of Americans and decided to start a Bed and Breakfast. After visiting many accommodations, they chose Virginia due to its rich history, diverse landscapes, and friendly people. After three weeks of exploring Virginia, they found their dream home, Sunnyside, a beautiful grand house surrounded by nature near Clarksville and Lake. In 2020, they bought Sunnyside, created a business plan, and applied for a visa. Despite the delays, they arrived in the US on September 24th 2020 and began their adventure. Over the next two years, they renovated Sunnyside, not just to improve its condition but also to create a place for themselves and their pets before the grand opening. On October 21st, 2023, they opened Sunnyside, offering five spacious rooms with private bathrooms, a breakfast room, and a gym.

There’s even free on-site parking, so you can bring your car or boat trailer with you. If you’re looking for some outdoor activities, there’s a walking trail that leads you to the 150-year-old Johnson-Carrington cemetery. For the adventurous type, it’s just a short drive to Occoneechee State Park, where you can explore miles of beautiful walking trails and enjoy the stunning views of Buggs Island Lake. Clarksville, the historic downtown area, and the lake are also just within one mile radius.
