Marie van der Spuy, also owner of Earthbound Guest House, bought De Akker Guest House from Morne and Rikie Tome. In 2006 and 2007, De Akker Guest House, was known as Acker & Malony, a bookkeeping firm. When the building came on the market, Morne and Rikie saw the opportunity and that was the "birth" of De Akker Guest House. Marie took over the business 1 October 2018 and started to do some changes and are giving her love and attention to make this Guest House one of the favourite places to stay over when visiting Oudtshoorn, either for holiday or business.

Build in the 1900's, De Akker Guest House's building has a rich history. It is the second house, situated north east of the historic national monument the "swing bridge". History reveals, that part of the house was used as a wood factory, then for living and then for business again. Changing it into a guest house, the owner's wanted to keep the original feel of the property - hence the wooden floors in the dining room. With it's luxury, comfortable, 5 en-suite bedrooms, with all the amenities, De Akker Guest House is centrally situated, to elevate the comfort of guest.
