KLOOF, VALLEY OF 1000 HILLS Kloof, a leafy and green village perched 550 metres above sea level with a reputation for a tranquil lifestyle that offers a retreat from the sometimes enervating humidity of the city of Durban. Kloof is one of the most attractive residential areas in the hills that lie above Durban. It virtually borders on the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve, cut through by a ravine along which the Molweni streams in a series of cascades and waterfalls, encouraging a rich birdlife, an abundance of green foliage and contributing to the mist belt of Kloof. The Krantzkloof reserve, just four kilometres from the centre of Kloof, offers some awesome views across the forested gorge and most of the reserve’s 500 odd hectares are covered by dense indigenous forest, a haven for wildlife. A wonderful picnic area next to the dam at the head of Kloof Falls is an attractive option for a weekend. From here there are various walks that descend into he gorge, following the course of the Molweni River. The Country Club is regarded as one of the best in KwaZulu Natal, the Valley of 1000 Hills tourism experience starts in Kloof, the Everton Conservancy is close by.
