When we bought this property, we thought this is the perfect place for guests to unplug, relax and unwind. The breathtaking sea views the soothing sound of the waves, the beutiful fynbos that surrounds the bungalow, and all the wonderful things the area has to offer to guests were what made the property so special. The bungalow is simply but comfortably furnished with a mid-century modern look. The slow combustion fireplace, a covererd stoep on the ocean side and a boma on the street side of the property are perfect for sharing stories with family and friends or enjoying a braai and a glass of local wine. While we hope Guppy Huys will take you back to a time when things were less-busy, simpler and quieter, we also realise that the modern world still beckons and have include practical ammenities like high speed wireless internet and usb charging points. I have always traveled a lot both for my work and privately and have stayed in a wide variety of accommodation around the world For me, it's always lovely to stay in a place that feels comfortable and welcoming from the moment you walk in. I also really love places that pay attention to the small details. That human touch, where the host has clearly tried to create a special place reflecting the local culture and anticipating the needs of the guests. We have tried to do this with Guppy Huys. The quiet upmarket neighbourhood of De Kelders has a mix of year-round residents and guesthouses. It borders on the pristine Walker Bay nature conservancy that extends along the coast all the way to Hermanus. The north-facing coast, provides an excellent climate and on a clear day it's possible to see all the way to the Cape peninsula. If you are looking for excitement and nightlife, De Kelders will not be to your taste. The residents of the area are very friendly and quiet, but don't appreciate loud parties. The town of Gansbaai is just 5 minutes by car, with supermarkets, a gym, banks, and various specialty shops and restaurants and cafes. Gansbaai is also the leading destination for shark cage diving. The town of Stanford, known for its gourmet country restaurants is just 15 minutes away. There you will also find a cheese farm, honey producer, charcuterie, wineries, a brewery, a distillery, river activities and even a big cat sanctuary. The area is a food lover’s paradise. Many places accommodate for families (particularly Stanford Hills with a small pond and play area, and Klein River Cheese Farmstead where you can buy everything you need for a family picnic.
