After returning in 2015 from working and travelling in Africa for 18 years, Mike & Anne Steytler decided to settle in Montagu, close to their family in Cape Town. They have decorated their guesthouse in a predominantly African theme using many of the paintings, sculptures and other artefacts accumulated during their travels. Traditionally, guests are invited to share a complimentary drink of the famous Montagu Muscadel, a local Port or a grape juice on arrival with their hosts.

Squirrels Corner is one of the most established guest houses in Montagu. Located in the quiet Bloem Street, the buildings date back to 1890. All bathrooms have walk-in showers and heaters for those chilly winter evenings. Both of the larger suites have fireplaces and all rooms have TV with the Openview program bouquet. Guests are also welcome to watch TV with the full DSTV bouquet in the lounge in the main house. Breakfast is available on request. Centrally located in the village near the Dutch Reformed Church, restaurants, historic buildings, museums, art galleries and the Tourism Bureau are all within easy walking distance. Your hosts will be more than willing to make a dinner reservation for you. Two easy walks - Lovers Walk and Kanonkop – also begin a few hundred metres from our front door. There is also an extensive collection of model Ferraris and other Ferrari themed memorabilia on the premises. Guests have free access to the collection.

Route 62 in South Africa is fast becoming as well known as the infamous Route 66 in America, and for good reason. Not only is it the longest wine route in the world, but it also leads to the beautiful historic village of Montagu. Montagu is cradled by the spectacular Langeberg mountain range and is famous for her orchards, vineyards, local herbs, rock formations and healing hot mineral springs. Rich in national Cape Dutch and Georgian National Monuments Montagu is a perfect example of a Late Victorian agricultural village in the Western Cape. Montagu is also becoming world famous amongst the rock-climbing fraternity. There are many fine restaurants in town to entice the gourmet in you, and if you feel you have indulged too much, the numerous walking trails will soon appease your guilty conscience.
