Witzenberg Base Camp is a paradise for nature lovers, outdoor enthusiasts and dog lovers, located on our lifestyle farm 4.5 km from Tulbagh. The camp was built with 100% recycled materials and is equipped with a solar lighting system, USB port and on demand gas geyser. There are no plugins for electrical appliances. This is a classic glamping experience. Kick back after a day of mountain biking in peace and tranquility, surrounded by the sounds of nature and panoramic view of the magnificent valley. The outdoor kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a portable wood braai, 2 burner gas hotplate, and a 12 volt, 47 L cooler. Basic amenities such as braai wood, fire lighters, tea, coffee, rusks, sugar, artificial creamer, salt, pepper, coffee plunger, dish soap, olive oil and essential toiletries are provided. We supply 18 pieces of braai wood for a 2 night stay, so if you want an endless ambience fire, you must supply your own wood for that purpose. The unique and private 3-piece bathroom has a rain shower with a lovely mountain view. Have a deep soak and star gaze with a glass of wine in the outdoor antique cast iron bathtub before enjoying a peaceful nights sleep on the queen size bed with quality lines and cozy duvet. Extra blankets and cozy outdoor wraps are provided. Guests have the entire camp to themselves and are welcome to stroll around the farm and surrounding areas. The lounging/kitchen area is sheltered from the elements, and a hammock can be set up for lazying with a good read. The Witzenberg behind our farm offers a great 12 km hiking trail, and we transport guests to and from the trailhead. Our 4 very social, well behaved dogs have free range of the farm and love to visit with guests. Adult gatherings up to 6 people are welcome but no overnight stays or noise after 11pm please.

Our home is located 60 metres from Base Camp. We expect guests to make themselves comfortable and at home with what is provided, however, we are a short walk or phone call away if needed. My husband and I are retired and live off the grid on our life style farm. I enjoy cooking, gardening and preserving fresh fruit and vegetables from my garden. We are blessed with seven children between us and 9 grandchildren to date. Our 2 Labrador Retreivers, Boerboel, and Jack Russell give us a lot of joy. We are dedicated DIYers and enjoy developing our farm and working on projects together. We also enjoy cycling and touring other parts of the world. Our family and friends are scattered throughout Canada, South Africa, Australia and the USA. My husband says I'm addicted to vacuuming and that our home "shines like a wet bottle in Moonlight" hahaha, but thats is really not true! I love meeting new people through hosting Witzenberg Base Camp and look forward to meeting you.

Witzenberg Base Camp is a rustic and casual country setting, perfect for relaxing in the privacy of your own space. This property is 100% off the grid. On overcast days loss of solar power may be a concern if energy is not conserved, however we do have a back-up power source. The local Spar is very busy on weekends and closes at 7pm weekdays and 1pm on Sunday. People are drawn to the beautiful Tulbagh valley for its diversity yet small town vibe. There is something for everyone, whether its cycling/mountain biking, hiking, wining and dining or strolling through historic church street. Some of our favourite places besides home are the stunning and easily accessed Waterfall Hike, the Tulbagh Nursery with a huge selection of trees, shrubs and plants, Oakhurst Olives with award winning oil, table olives and tapenade. Hike the Witzenberg behind our farm to enjoy spectacular views of the valley and beyond or get lost on the trails and side roads on your MTB. Enjoy wine tasting at any of the several nearby farms, or gin tasting at Vindoux. Last but not least....a sundowner followed by a braai, star gazing and a hot soak in the deep outdoor bathtub, all on your private stoop at Witzenberg Base Camp. So much to do and so little time.
