The hotel is wonderful and in an excellent location. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. The staff is exceptionally friendly. We would especially like to thank them for accommodating us and preparing a vegan breakfast tailored to our wishes. I was also very impressed with the quality of the windows, as once closed, they completely blocked out the city noise and ensured peace and quiet.

Topkapi Palace

The home of Ottoman sultans for hundreds of years, Topkapi Palace is part of Istanbul’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dating back to 1459, this sprawling royal residence once covered a huge stretch of the shore – and even had its own hospital, mint and mosques within the walls. Now a museum, it displays some of the most important artefacts of the Muslim world.

Don't take a guided tour for Topkapi Palace because you will be rushed through and can't take the time to savour all the delights. There are English signs that explain areas and you can also download an audio guide if you wish. Make sure to visit the Harem. Don't miss the kitchens on the side. We took four hours to really enjoy this palace.

Ensure that you schedule enough time to visit. The recommended time is not enough to spend time with everything. Ensure that you include Harem as part of your tour. An absolute must see to appreciate the rest of the tour

i know the country is struggling and that they also have to do what they can to reduce the hordes tramping through Topkapi, but you have to be on the level of the British Museum or the Louvre with a once-in-a-lifetime traveling exhibit to justify these kinds of prices. I'm very interested in Turkish history as well as an archaeology buff and it didn't merit the investment. i think they should cut the price in half, offer a steep discount for seniors, and cut off ticket sales at a certain volume each hour. 1,700 lira per person, payable in cash or card (debit/credit) in TL, Euros, or USD. The free audio guide requires you leave your passport as deposit (not $), so be sure to bring yours. There is only one place inside that require women to wear a shawl and they have freebies you can use at the entrance to those rooms. The harem is included in this price, NO need to pay an extra 600 TL. Budget at least a good couple hours just to tour the place.

Too expensive ticket, but if you enter, do eat before entering and grab with yourself a bigger bottled water. There is no place to get a water inside, one spot sells drinks at multiple times the normal price. The trip may last around 3 hours so eat well beforehand. Really recommend going early, as later in the day and after 2 + hours after opening, it gets too crowdy.

We enjoyed our stay in Sultan Suleyman palace Hotel and Spa. Staff at hotel reception was excellant and very friendly. In breakfast there were variety of English and Turkish dishes and all were fresh and tasty. Hotel location was excellent as Blue Mosque and Topkapi palace were in walking distance, also variety of nice Turkish restaurants and Tram station near to the hotel. Furthermore, friendly receptionist ( sorry, forgot his name) offered free Sauna and also gave us a gift. Highly recommended.

What guests said about Topkapi Palace:

Walk everywhere possible.

Walk everywhere possible. Visit Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica cisterns and Topkapi Palace but go as early as possible as they get very crowded. For a trip on the Bosporus get the public ferry from under the Galata bridge to the last stop and go up to the castle and then get last ferry back to Istanbul. The first ferry is at 10.35 and the ferry back is at 3ish. It is very reasonable but there is no commentary but we thought it was excellent but be early to get a good view and position on top deck. We found the best restaurant to be Amedros. We went two times and the food is excellent and good value and the staff friendly attentive.

If you go to Topkapi Palace it is worth paying for a guided tour in order to appreciate it. Audio guides are available but in my experience these are often disappointing. The rooms are often empty and there is limited information to read. A guide brings the place to life.
