Firm recommendation for larger families/groups. We stayed at the Mimaru Tokyo Ueno North hotel which is made up entirely of suites of various sizes. We had a suite for six (for five of us), three adults (my wife and I plus 21 year-old son) and two teenage kids, 15 & 17. The suite has four single beds, more like 3/4 doubles (based on U.K. bed sizes). Fine for one adult, plenty of room. The beds are quite firm, certainly firmer than I’m used to at home, but very comfortable. Lots of pillows and some of them are double sided with the rice grain type filling on one side. Others are soft like a feather pillow (not sure of the filling but they were just like they were filled with duck down). There’s also two bunk beds which are similar size but narrower. My oldest son, 6ft, had no issue sleeping in it. There’s a kitchen area and seating for six. It’s equipped with a hot plate, sink, fridge/freezer and kettle along with cutlery and plates for six. Sharp knives and chopping board, plus pots & pans under the sink. We didn’t cook in the room, but we bought in bread, butter, cereal and cheese for breakfast to fuel up before we started the day. There’s no toaster, but you can borrow these from reception for no charge (Mimaru hotels have a variety of what they call “rental” items but they’re all free to borrow). There’s a lounge area with TV (all Japanese channels) but we borrowed an Apple TV from reception so we could watch Netflix etc. It’s about an 8 minute walk to Ueno station and about 10-12 minutes from Ueno Centre (lots of restaurants and shops). Lawson and Family Mart within a few minutes for bits & pieces and there’s a larger supermarket in the station (although it seems more expensive than the konbinis for the stuff we’ve been buying for breakfast). The only thing I could say against it, was the lack of shelf space in the wardrobe for things like t-shirts & shorts etc that you’d normally lay flat rather than hang up.

We had an incredible stay at Section L! The front desk team was exceptional—always helpful, friendly, and welcoming every time we came and went. The hotel was impeccably clean; the room felt brand new, which is a rare and pleasant surprise for a hotel. The location was unbeatable, just a 2-minute walk from the Mita Line, making it super easy and affordable to get anywhere in the city. The sauna was a fantastic feature and very simple to book, adding to the overall relaxation. One of the biggest highlights was having a washing machine/dryer right in the room—it was an absolute lifesaver during our three-week stay! Overall, Section L is a fantastic choice, and we’ll definitely stay here again when we return to Japan.

We had a wonderful stay! The location is perfect — very convenient and close to everything we needed. The amenities were excellent and made our stay very comfortable. Everything was spotless, the cleanliness really stood out. The beds were perfect, super cozy and we all slept so well. Our family truly loved this place — it felt like home but even better. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting.

Amazing view! I was on the 27th floor, it was so beautiful; staff 5 stars so nice; they handled the luggage transfer to my next hotel, close to subway, restaurants and stores (7-eleven, family mart and ginza street for other shopping) The room was nice and big, had a shower and a bathtub, minifridge in the room. 2 floors have a room with microwave, ice machine and a laundromat. All was controlled with an ipad (light, info, room service and you could even see the availability of the laundromat)

Big seize two floor duplex room, nice and classy design room, very comfortable king size bed. Very elegant colonial type hotel. Even though the hotel builds above major and the biggest and busiest train station in Tokyo but it sounds nothing in the room. Reception staff speaks english fluently, the concierge staff also very helpful and professional. They even offers us to store our luggage while we away to Hakone for 5 days and pick it up later. It is world 5 stars hotel at the Tokyo Train station.

Everything. It is the best hotel I have ever been. You can enjoy a luxurious Japanese atmosphere. Everything about the hotel is just pure perfection. The Japanese restaurant is simply superb: we tried the sushi counter, the tempura counter and the incredible Japanese breakfast. There are also many other restaurants, including a last floor restaurant at the 41 floor if you want to try Wagyu beef with a magical view.
