Guests can find a private hot spring bath and Japanese restaurant on site. We had a wonderful, relaxing stay at Eidaya. The staff were all lovely, especially the young gentleman who served us during our meals, and the owner was also very warm and welcoming. The food was great and they were able to cater to our allergies/dietary requirements. I also loved all the retro games and decor - it felt like a lot of love and thought had been put in to the ryokan!

The onsen was also lovely and had the luck of being alone every time I went to take a dip. I’m looking forward to be back, our stay made our trip to Kusatsu a dreamy experience 💗

Located along Houshi River, Houshi Onsen Chojukan features a public hot spring bath, Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and Japanese cuisine. A wooden building stemming from 100 years ago, the property breathes a historical atmosphere. This place is just on the top of my ranking. A real Japanese experience with all the necessary detail to make the stay unforgettable. The different baths super clean and with history. The meals offered were delightful. And the environment just as needed, calm, serene and peaceful.

Guests can refresh in the massages chairs at the relaxation rooms and enjoy a ganbanyoku hot-stone spa. Free WiFi is available at the entire property and JR Shibukawa Train Station is a 15-minute drive away. The property is near public transportation, which is a big plus for a solo traveller without a car. I took a room with a private onsen, which was really enjoyable. The dinner and breakfast were all excellent. The staff were very nice and accommodating. I really felt warm-hearted when they tried to explain the dinner menu in english and did a handwritten english translation of the breakfast menu. They also offered to drop me off at the bus station and reminded me when to expect the bus. It was incredibly sweet. I do love the area as it was a good break from the city’s hustle and bustle. The Ikaho footsteps is about a 5-minute walk. It has a lot of shops so it is a good distraction while climbing the stairs.
