Booked this hotel for the location in the iya valley and the onsen. It is just a 3min drive from the Iya valley vine bridge. But the hotel itself is a destination worth visiting itself. The onsen were superb. Well maintained with a quaint funicular train up the hill to the open air onsen that had great views of the mountains. Food was good quality. I particularly liked the multiple methods of preparing the ayu (river fish). The room itself was a very comfortable and quite newly renovated tatami room with all the typical ryokan amenities. Staff were not just polite but friendly and welcoming. English and Mandarin both spoken here - so that is very helpful for travelers.

The beds under the roof are very comfortable and you sleep excellently. To fall asleep, you can watch the stars through the skywindow. The surroundings are very quiet. Everything is quiet, so you can relax on the terrace. Ryota, the owner, offers free bicycles that are great for exploring the area. If you want, you can also book surfing and stand-up paddle with Ryota. The water is perfect for this and still warm enough at the end of October.
