They offer a really good package that includes accommodation for 2 nights, a canyon tour and meals. The family were super nice and the place was very clean. Food was typical and traditional but really nice. It’s directly across from the canyon park and the bus stops outside the door. They were also happy to give us a lift in and out of town in the evening to grab beers and use an ATM.

This place is really a home stay and not a hostel, which was a pleasant surprise for me. I had tremendous fun jumping and swimming down Somoto Canyon with Juan on his tour. Delicious (and inexpensive!) meals by his wife. I extended my stay an extra night it was so pleasant. Cool air in the evenings, and warm during the day. Far enough off the highway to barely hear the trucks going by. Great WiFi to watch Netflix. What a wonderful introduction to Nicaragua this was!

This place is an absolute gem! The apartment is spacious, clean, comfortable and very tastefully decorated. Nice functional kitchen. Located at the edge of town in a quiet neighbourhood a short walk from the center. Secure gated and covered parking for our motorcycles. It's a good location for trips to the Somoto Canyon. Sandra the host was happy to help us organise an amazing day in the canyon, where we got picked up in the morning and dropped up in the afternoon at the apartment. More than anything it was Sandra that made our stay truly amazing. She is an amazing woman and a fantastic host.

From the moment we arrived at Hostal San José, we were greeted by three adorable dogs who welcomed us with pure canine love every time we came and went. They truly set the tone for the warmth and care that surrounds this special place. Emir is an exceptional host who goes above and beyond to make his guests feel at home. His breakfasts are absolutely fantastic - delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and the perfect way to start each day. But what impressed us most was his genuine willingness to do everything possible (and seemingly impossible!) to ensure our comfort and happiness. He even allowed us to use his personal refrigerator, which was incredibly helpful and just one example of how he treats guests like family rather than customers. The entire hostal is surrounded by an atmosphere of care and coziness that makes you never want to leave. We genuinely enjoyed every single minute of our stay. If you're looking for authentic hospitality, a comfortable place to rest, and a host who truly cares about your experience, Hostal San José is the perfect choice. Right in Somoto canyon and the nature is amazing. Breakfast was a super good, a typical Nicaraguan breakfast. The staff was so friendly and took care of us super well!
