Michael is an excellent host, very professional, with good advice re restaurants and how to get to various sightseeing spots. The breakfasts were plentiful and well made. They did laundry for us and ordered taxis for us twice for a reasonable price. This is a guesthouse, not a formal hotel, so if you are looking for fancy, then this is not the place for you. What you will get is a comfortable bed, a warm room, lots of hot water available for showers, and a tea station where you can help yourself. We had some great conversations with Michael and really enjoyed our stay. We felt at home there.

Claudia’s cooking was equally remarkable—each meal was a masterpiece filled with love and flavor. And, of course, we can’t forget Tupac, their adorable and friendly llama. Hugging him was such a unique and heartwarming experience! The lodge is a perfect blend of comfort, charm, and cultural immersion. To top it off, Rodi is beginning to organize Inca Trail tours with a big focus on ensuring porters are treated with the utmost care and respect. If you’re looking to explore one of the most unique places on Earth while supporting ethical practices, this is the place to start. We couldn’t recommend Spirit of the River Lodge more highly. The owners - Helga and Romulo - are some of the most loving and helpful people I met during my travels. Even when I lost my purse and passport they did everything to help me to get it back, which I did eventually. I really liked the location, quiet and very close to nature and the ancient sites. Romulo even gave me a little tour around the sites. They also gave me a hot-water bottle every night because it was a bit cold. Two super lovely humans. Thanks so much, would definitely coming back!

Very clean, hotel is practically new, found that they started 2 years ago, terrace is incredible, great panoramic view of Cusco, breakfast was greate, check out early and got box lunch, they gave a key chain and souvenir, was a nice gift. I really enjoy walking so going from and to plaza de armas was no problem, walking to the hotel was a little steep but no problem, if you have an elderly person or handicap may need a car, thus all was excellent I give it 10 rating. There was a shared living room with hot water to drink coffee at nights, that was great. Room even had small device for heating a little which was greate.
