The location is peaceful and beautiful, right by the lake — perfect for relaxing. The room was clean, cozy, and well-maintained. What made this place special is the heart behind it. The owner, Pak Ali, is a kind and inspiring person. He also runs a foundation for children with cleft lips in Sumatra — which made my stay feel even more meaningful. Upstairs, there’s a vegetarian café with delicious food. They grow some of their ingredients on-site (farm-to-table concept), and I was blown away by the haloumi sandwich – they even import the cheese from the UK! It’s not just a place to stay, it’s a place that stays with you. I’d definitely come back if I visit Toba again.

The lady is the best cook in Sumatara! She makes very good quality dishes, local taste. We rent motorbikes there and asked for laundry service, nothing was a problem. We stayed for a total of 9 nights in Romlan; in two different rooms. Where to start with the things we liked? First of all, the staff of Romlan is very friendly and helpful. They even helped us with calling and getting to the local pharmacy to get some medicines for sickness (one of us got ill and they called the pharmacy that was closed due to the Sunday Service and they opened up the pharmacy for us). The food and drinks of their own restaurant were amazing and very tasty & variable; good price value as well! The location of Romlan is also good: the boat drops you off at their pier and all the things in Tuk Tuk are on walking distance. The views from the rooms and restaurant are amazing. If you want to hire a scooter bike you can without signing for anything and you don't have to fuel up the tank (when you get the bike, the tank is full). A free refill water station is available and also some tips & tricks about the surroundings of Romlan and the transport options from Lake Toba to other places like Berastagi or Medan. Definitely recommended to book your stay at Romlan when you are looking for a place to stay in Tuk Tuk.

It was a rugged location with the lake and sunset at your doorstep. You can wake up to the sound of the waves and it was quite peaceful. But perhaps the best thing about them is the hospitality, and their FOOD. I tried various different restaurants from my stay at Tuktuk and nothing came close to the food made by Hamlet and Rita at Laster Jony's. It felt like coming back home from a long day of travelling. Definitely try their veggie and cheese omelette, fried rice, and mixed fruit pancake 😍.

All units in the guest house are fitted with a kettle. The guest house features some units that have mountain views, and each unit has a private bathroom and a wardrobe. The owners were lovely, helpful and hospitable, bed was very comfortable, with the bathrooms being clean with the bonus of hot water in the shower, the wifi also connected easily we had an amazing view of the lake and could take a fresh dip whenever needed.
