Richar gidste ons naar de hoogste top van het eiland en kon heel wat vertellen over het leven op Amantani. Wij kwamen uit Juliaca via de ferry aan Puerto Chifron en Richar regelde voor ons een boot om de volgende ochtend terug te keren Puno. Lucrecia zorgde voor heel lekker eten. Achteraf gezien hadden we beter 2 nachten gebleven. Dan was er wat meer tijd geweest, bvb om met Richar te gaan vissen.

Winston was arranging the transports for us , also the trips for Uris and taquile islands. We want to recommend this place for everyone who is wondering about staying on titikaka lake

Sunrise over the lake is exquisite, the water often perfectly still, and the birdlife abundant. We found ourselves slowing down completely — reading books, braving the cold lake waters during the warmest part of the day, and playing cards together in the cozy dining hut. The peace here is profound. Don Mario offers a two-hour boat tour through the village, guiding guests through the reed beds while explaining how generations of Uros have used these reeds to cook, build, and navigate the lake they hold sacred. It was deeply moving and fascinating to learn about a way of life that feels both ancient and fragile, yet still very much alive. Both Mario and Lea are also gifted artisans. Don Mario creates drawings that beautifully capture the lake and its culture, while Mama Lea transforms these designs into pillow covers, table runners, and wall hangings that are truly lovely and meaningful keepsakes. A few practical notes: the showers are gravity-fed and solar-heated, which means lower water pressure and the hottest water in the late afternoon. The midday sun is intense, so wide-brimmed hats and sunscreen are essential. Finally, a word about Uros itself. Before arriving, I read many reviews dismissing the islands as a tourist trap rather than a genuine community. While tourism clearly plays an important role in the local economy, it is equally clear that this is a real, living community with deep roots. The Uros have existed here for countless generations, passing down knowledge, skills, and craftsmanship. They are skilled fishermen and masters of using reeds for nearly everything imaginable.

If you want to see the Uros please do NOT book a tour book night here with Leonardo and Lina instead. There are such lovely people and offer tours themselves so you can discover their culture in a more private way and the money goes directly to a Uros family. We went on a kayak tour and were able to discover the whole village ourselves at our own pace which was great. The room was really comfortable, the view amazing and the food tasty. Lina, Leonardo and their children are great people happy to share about their culture. I feel really privileged to have spent time with them. One thing to note is that they live off grid, you only have USB ports in the room, the water pressure is low and it's a dry toilet. But they have managed to make it really comfortable anyway. We were surprised to even have hot water when we didn't have any in a hotel in town.

We kregen ook een boottocht langs de drijvende eilanden met veel uitleg over de manier waarop de Uros leven en werken. Ook het eten is erg lekker.

Hands down the best place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Mariluz and Henry are sweet, hospitable, and highly accommodating hosts! Their home is clean, beautiful, and comfortable. You need not worry about looking for a place to eat either as Mariluz can make you lunch and dinner everyday, for a very good price. I loved the meals! My room had an amazing view of Lake Titicaca. Absolutely, a relaxing oasis. The place is located near the pachamama and pachatata trails. If you want to come to this wonderful island, you should pay for the full day Uros and Amantani tour. To return to Puno, you can take a local boat and then a couple of collectivos back (about 23 soles) to Puno. Check with Henry about the times. Also, I learned a lot about the Amantani culture during my stay. I ended up buying some souvenirs and beanies that Mariluz herself made. Amazingly talented and resourceful family. I had a great time.

Uros Samarana Uta Lodge ligt in Puno en biedt een zonneterras en uitzicht op de bergen. Het meer van Titicaca ligt op 7 km van de accommodatie. We hebben erg genoten van het mooie uitzicht en de comfortabele kamer. Daarnaast vonden we het geweldig om van Cesar meer te leren over het leven op de eilanden. Het eten was lekker, ook voor vegetariërs!

Uros Qhantany Lodge bevindt zich op 5 km van de kust van Puno en is gebouwd op de drijvende eilanden van Uros. Het biedt accommodaties in het midden van het Titicacameer. It was better then aspected, clean with a lots of character, amazing view, best family ever, warm, ready to help anytime, Delia is an incredible host and cook, Wilber her husband transported us back and forth to any destination we needed to be. They organized everything for you. I highly recommend to anyone is going there.
