The Hotel Kohlpeter was in a quiet residential area of Salzburg with very convenient access to a bus stop and grocery store. Old Town Salzburg has many sights to see: fortress up on top of the hill, churches with fabulous architecture, some of St. Peter's catacombs where the Sound of Music was partially filmed. There are many great restaurants, walk along the river and some days, there is quite a market with tents as far as the eye can see. Across the river is another interesting area so don't miss this as well. Be sure to take a bus or drive to the Hellbrunn Palace and enjoy all the water theatrics outside. The hotel gives the welcome card which is great for free transport. I bought the Innsbruck card as I wanted to do as much as possible and it was well worth the money, several options available and getting it online and onto my phone was very quick and easy. Interlaken was the “cherry on top” of our European travels. The views were amazing (I’ve never seen 30+ paragliders in the sky…in the ALPs no less!!!), the area was so quaint, the locals friendly; and eating Swiss fondue somehow tastes better from the Alps! Lugano is a nice little town with all facilities and transportation points near at hand. Monte Bre and Monte San Salvatore are excellent points to visit with breathtaking panoramic views. We also did a day trip to Morcote which was also very nice specially Scherrer's Park. Back in Lugano, Parco Ciani and Piazza Riforma are excellent places to hang around and have meals. The walk around the lake is great to do either way. A visit to the castle is a must. Vintgar Gorge is stunning and the walk back into Bled is easy to follow. Definitely visit Bohinj area whilst staying in Bled. You can’t cycle around the lake however the walk is lovely and you can get the electric boat back across the lake as an option. Grindelwald is definitely a place to visit and stay if you want to see the mountains up close. It is a comfortable and cozy little town which has cable cars to take you up in the mountain where there are activities like Zip Line and Tobogganing. It is very accessible by Bus and Trains. Our stay was for 3 days in October. Unfortunately in October attractions including most cable cars and the Mer de Glace are closed. But our visit to the Aiguille du Midi made our stay - we had great weather and the views from the Aiguille were amazing! Chamonix is a beautiful town. We enjoyed seeing Mont Blanc up-close.
