FAQs about hotels in Tasmania
Laidback Island of Incredible Landscapes
Perhaps most famous for the deceptively cute-looking Tasmanian devil, tranquil Tassie, as it’s affectionately known, boasts some of Australia’s most impressive landscapes.
Most 5-star Tasmanian hotels are in its historic capital Hobart, a beautiful city cascading down slopes towards the sea. Its highest points offer far-reaching views towards the bay’s lush islands and headlands. The furthest headland shelters Port Arthur, a former convict colony touted as Australia’s answer to Alcatraz.
Just outside the capital is Richmond, home of Australia’s oldest bridge. To the north-east is Swansea, across Great Oyster Bay from the Freycinet Peninsula, site of stunning Wineglass Bay.
Bicheno has a sweeping, sandy beach, while St Helens beach further north is protected by land outcrops that are birdlife havens. To its west Launceston features the large Queen Victoria Museum and beautiful Cataract Gorge. It is also the gateway to the north coast resorts where many cheap hotels in Tasmania are located and available to book on Booking.com.
One such resort is Devonport, the arrival point for ferries from Melbourne. Burnie also has a port, and is linked by a coastal road to Stanley whose narrow promontory ends in a rock called The Nut. South is wonderful Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, and to its west is the sleepy town of Strahan whose backdrop is the mountains covering south-western Tasmania.

Hobart is a great City to visit but always bring some additional layers. So much to do and see. Mt Wellington - fantastic views Mono is so interesting and getting the ferry there and back is so convenient. Plenty of Museums and art gallery's to visit as well as the Cascade Brewery and Cascade Female Factory [about 2km out of the city or a quick ride on the Hop on Hop off bus] Salamanca Markets are also a must. The Skybus is also a quick and easy way to travel to and from the airport, especially for solo travellers.Guest review byDiamond66Australia - 8.0

My highlight was the boat trip down the Tamar in the Cataract Gorge. The local council needs to invest in more street name signage at intersections. As a first timer to Launceston I found it hard to navigate.Guest review byJeanNew Zealand - 8.0

Not many cafes/food shops were open when we arrived with the Spirit of Tasmania. We enjoyed the space of a 2 bedroom cabin. We only stayed one night & that was enough for us to get a taste of Davenport,Guest review byMariaAustralia - 8.0
We visited the Devils in the Dark show. Brilliant!
We visited the Devils in the Dark show. Brilliant! Viewing feeding the Tasmanian Devils over wine and cheese. Great dinner at Sealife Restaurant and Cafe. Comfortable stay at Bicheno on the Bay. Penguin chick under our deck was noisy but so exciting to see. Blowhole and beaches are stunning.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
The selection of walk was excellent.
The selection of walk was excellent. Signage for access to some of the walk was not optimal. There needs to be a display of weather information for the day, which walks are closed and more prominent information on dress attire.Guest review byMarcus VowelsAustralia - 10.0

Beautiful area with many wonderful beaches to visit - Bay of Fires - and all the wonderful rock formations. St. Helen's township is very interesting with some great shops. Buy oysters direct from the farm and they are delicious!Guest review byRosoanneAustralia - 8.0
The cottage had everything you needed.
The cottage had everything you needed. The rooms were large and the beds were very comfortable and plenty of towels. I did appreciate the selection of teas you left. It was lovely watching the rabbits out of our large windows. Even though the weather wasn’t good I still enjoyed my time in this cottage. Thank youGuest review byLynneAustralia - 10.0

We visited outside the peak periods so tours were much more pleasant than full boats and queues. Loved the location of our accommodation away from the township. Be aware that there are limited supply choices in the general stores.Guest review byBronwynAustralia - 10.0
You need a full day.
You need a full day. The cruise is included in the entry and very informative. You can book various tours and take a walk around by yourself. For those with mobility problems a free buggy will take you to various sites. Some places have steps. There is a great cafe that sells hot or cold food and drinks a gift shop ad a dining room for nght time meals. There is a lovely Cafe and museum at the lunatic asylum along with restrooms. Make sure you have your camera ready as some beautiful birds throughout. Wear comfy shoes and be prepared for quick change in weather. overall it is a very great insight in the harsh conditions convicts endured. Enjoy.Guest review byCherylAustralia - 10.0
